BID honors the “Mayor of North Broadway”

The Yonkers Downtown BID presented a special business recognition award to Prestine Wesley during the Annual Downtown Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony held on December 2nd, 2014. Mr. Wesley has been the owner of Harry’s Shoe Repair, in Downtown Yonkers, for over 50 years. He was the first African-American business owner on that street and has dedicated his career to helping others in our community.

Perstine Wesley is a vocal community leader who leads by example and through his actions. Each year, he spearheads a number of local programs that help those in need. Just over the past several months, he collected winter coats and distributed them to the community, provided free turkeys to families during Thanksgiving, and managed the “Wesley and Friends Annual 5K Fun Run”. The Fun Run is a program Mr. Wesley designed to build positive relationships between local children and the Yonkers Police Department.

“Mr. Wesley represents the very best of Downtown Yonkers. He is deeply devoted to community service, the success of local businesses, and building a stronger and more vibrant downtown area. We are so grateful for his friendship, wisdom, and energy over the past 50 years.” said Daniel Lipka, Executive Director of the Yonkers Downtown BID.

Harry’s Shoe Repair is located at 11 North Broadway, Yonkers NY. Visit his shop for unmatched expert service or to just talk with Pestine. You’re sure to learn something new and make a new friend.
